Handing over 11 rescued fishermen from Quang Ninh sunken fishing boat

19/06/2025

At 5:00 PM on June 19, 2025, the cargo ship STARSHIP TAURUS (flagged Marshall Islands) safely docked at VIP Green Port (Hai Phong), completing the emergency mission of bringing ashore 11 fishermen from the fishing boat QN 80058 TS, which had sunk earlier that day. This was one of the fastest and most effective maritime search and rescue operations carried out with close coordination between domestic and international forces.

STARSHIP TAURUS safely returns 11 fishermen of QN 80058 TS to VIP Green Port.

At VIP Green Port, representatives from various agencies were present to receive the fishermen, including the Vietnam MRCC (the Centre), the Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority (both under the Vietnam Maritime and Waterways Administration, Ministry of Construction), Coast Guard, Border Defense Force, and local authorities. The rescued fishermen were immediately given medical check-ups at the port with support from local healthcare personnel. According to preliminary reports, most of the fishermen were in stable condition, though some showed signs of fatigue and dehydration due to prolonged exposure to rough sea conditions.

Leaders of the Centre and Hai Phong Maritime Port Authority welcome and assist the rescued fishermen at VIP Green Port.

“After receiving the distress alert from the Vietnam maritime rescue forces, we immediately began search and rescue operations in the area and were fortunate to achieve a successful outcome. We are honored to have assisted the Vietnamese fishermen. It is our duty as seafarers to help one another in times of need.” A representative of the STARSHIP TAURUS crew shared.

Earlier that day, at 7:45 AM, the fishing boat QN 80058 TS was overwhelmed by large waves approximately 13–15 nautical miles north of Bach Long Vi Island, amid rough sea conditions with wind force level 5–6. Under the direction of the VINASARCOM, Ministry of Construction, and the Vietnam Maritime and Waterway Administration, the Centre launched a swift emergency response. Resources deployed included: Coast Guard vessel CSB 2005, Navy vessel HQ 85, 8 local fishing boats, and Cargo ship STARSHIP TAURUS. By 11:30 AM, STARSHIP TAURUS successfully located and rescued all 11 fishermen approximately 10 nautical miles northwest of the original sinking site and transported them safely to Hai Phong.
