Handing over 14 fishermen of fishing boat BĐ 98268 TS

At 10:00 a.m. on November 21st, 2023, the vessel CSB 4034 docked at the Command Port in Vung Tau to hand over  14 fishermen of the sunken fishing boat BĐ 98268 TS to relevant authorities.

Previously, at 04:20 on November 20th, 2023, the Vietnam MRCC (the Centre) received information from the Border Guard Command of Binh Dinh province: at about 02:00 on November 20th, 2023, the fishing boat BĐ 98268 TS while fishing in the area with coordinates: 10⁰ 53'N; 110⁰ 32'E (about 95 HL East Northeast of Phu Quy island) was damaged by water and sank, there were 14 crew members on board, the weather in the area was bad with Northeast wind level 6, gusting to level 7-8, waves over 3m high. The owner requested urgent rescue.

Under the timely direction of VINASARCOM, the Ministry of Transport and the Vietnam Maritime Administration, the Centre activated the search and rescue plan and deployed the specialized ship SAR 413 which is on standby in Vung Tau to be ready to carry out the mission.

The Centre directly contacted and mobilized foreign vessels traveling through the area of the ship accident, including M/V HONGRUN 76 (flagged Chinese), M/V EUROSKY (flagged Liberian), and M/V BARZAN (flagged German) to participate in search and rescue coordination.

Immediately after receiving the request from the Center, M/V BARZAN organized a search and rescue. At 12:20 on November 20, 2023, M/V BARZAN confirmed that she had discovered and rescued all 14 fishermen of the fishing boat BĐ 98268 TS safely into the ship. Due to bad weather conditions at sea with waves over 3 meters high, transferring people at sea to the vessel CSB 6007 was not safe, the Centre instructed the captain of M/V BARZAN to return to Vung Tau to hand over victims to the authorities in Vung Tau.

The VINASARCOM dispatched the Coast Guard vessel CSB 4034 to receive the 14 fishermen. At 06:45 on November 21st, the vessel CSB 4034 approached M/V BARZAN and disembarked the 14 fishermen, bringing them ashore and docking at the Coast Guard Region 3 Headquarters at 10:00 the same day.

After being brought ashore, the 14 fishermen in distress from the sunken fishing boat BĐ 98268 TS were handed over to the representative of the Border Guard Command of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province.

At the handover meeting, Mr. Tran Van Phuc, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Binh Dinh Province, thanked the search and rescue force for promptly mobilizing many human resources and vehicles to search and rescue 14 fishermen in distress. He also thanked the Coast Guard Region 3 Command for organizing to receive the victims, bring them safely ashore, and hand them over to their families.
