SAR 274 vessel promptly rescued 02 patients from the temporarily isolated Cu Lao Cham Island.

24/12/2023

At 17:30 on 24th December 2023, Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (Vietnam MRCC) received a distress alert from Quang Nam Border Guard that the Tan Hiep military-civil medical centre in Cu Lao Cham island was treating 02 patients named Mr.Tran Van Cu (YOB: 1964) and Mr. Tran Van Thu (YOB: 1970), residents of Ong Xa hamlet, Tan Hiep village, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province—two men with the symptoms as paleness mucosa, cold limbs, tormina, vomit, blooding defecation. As per the diagnosis of the doctor, 02 patients below had gastrointestinal bleeding, which caused the large loss of blood, which can lead them to be in danger of their lives if they cannot reach advanced medical treatment. At that moment, Cu Lao Cham island had been isolated due to the harsh weather with wind numbers 7 to 8 as the Beaufort scale, 3 – 4 meters of wave height, and poor visibility; the island with none of the vessels could be approached, the Provincial Border Guard Command of Quang Nam province immediately kindly required Vietnam for medical assistance and dispatch the specialized vessel to take them to turn back shore for emergency treatment.

Faced with an emergency that could threaten patients' lives, Vietnam MRCC promptly coordinated with Emergency Department 115 of Danang City to send the medical team to the SAR 274 vessel and conducted the rescue mission in Cu Lao Cham Island.

The rescue force takes patients back to the shore.

With the highest speed, defeated by the harsh weather, at 20:20 on the same day, the SAR 274 vessel approached Cu Lao Cham Island; with the assistance from the local border guard and army doctor, 02 patients were transferred to the SAR 274 vessel for emergency treatment and take back to the shore. The patients were handed over to SAR 274 vessels with symptoms such as gastrointestinal bleeding, tormina, paleness, mucosa, and cold limbs; the medical team always does its best to keep their situation better during the voyage.

The doctor does the emergency for the patient

At 22:40 on 24 December 2023, the SAR 274 vessel safely transported 02 patients to Da Nang City and handed them over to the relevant authorities. As a result of the timely advanced treatment, the patients were able to escape the initial danger and were still alive. The Emergency Department of Da Nang City received the patients and took them to the local hospital for treatment./.
