SEARCH AND RESCUE MONTHLY REPORT JANUARY 2024
In January 2024, Vietnam MRCC directly commanded, operated its own SAR resources; led, joined, co-operated with relevant SAR forces to well perform marine search and rescue operations; details are as follow:
1. On-duty operation and processing of distress at sea information activities
- The total number of received distress alerts was 26 cases, including:
+ Real distress alerts: 25 cases, counting for 96%; false distress alerts: 01 case, counting for 4%.
+ SAR co-ordination cases without SAR vessel dispatching: 24 cases.
+ SAR co-ordination cases with SAR vessel dispatching: 01 case.
+ In 25 true incident alerts, there were 02 maritime distress cases relating to cargo vessels, counting for 08%; 20 cases relating to fishing vessels, counting for 80%; and 03 cases relating to other vessels, counting for 12%.
- Total number of supported and rescued people: 124 persons (110 Vietnamese and 14 foreigners).
- Total number of supported and rescued vessels: 07 Vietnamese vessels.
2. Cases of SAR vessel dispatch in January 2024
From January 29 to January 31, 2024, Vietnam MRCC coordinated with relevant authorities to successfully rescue 12 crew members and deployed the vessel SAR 413 to search for 3 missing crew members of the cargo ship Samudra Indah II (flagged Malaysia, call sign 9WVV, tonnage 2073 tons) sunk at position 08°57' North Latitude; 106°37' East longitude, 90 nautical miles southwest of Vung Tau, 11 nautical miles northwest of Con Dao when this cargo ship was carrying 1518 tons of rice (in containers) from My Thoi, An Giang (Vietnam) to Pontianak Kalimatan (Indonesia).
In addition, Vietnam MRCC has participated with relevant authorities in handling 02 cases of distress reporting in the sea areas of Vietnam's Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos; rescued and supported 15 Vietnamese./.
