Successfully rescues an international crew member in distress in Vietnam’s waters

At 18:26 on May 23, 2025, Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (Vietnam MRCC) received information from the vessel named SM HEDLAND: the bulk carrier SM HEDLAND, flagged under Marshall Islands, on its voyage from China to Singapore at the position: 15-00'N; 114-33'E (about 361 nautical miles northeast of Nha Trang), there was 01 crew member (Full name: Min Hein Khanh, nationality: Myanmar, born in 1976) who had severed fifth finger and crushed fouth finger (on the right hand). The vessel altered its course to Nha Trang and requested that the crew member be brought ashore for emergency treatment. The weather in the area was a Southeast wind level 3.

Upon receiving the information, Vietnam MRCC connected the vessel to a medical consultant and requested the vessel to proceed to Nha Trang at its full speed for timely support.

Following the directives of the Vietnam Maritime and Waterway Administration, Vietnam MRCC urgently mobilized the specialized search and rescue canoe CN02-TSA, on standby in Nha Trang, to conduct the rescue operation.

At 23:00 on May 24, 2025, the maritime rescue force approached the vessel SM HEDLAND and promptly brought the patient ashore. At 23:40 on the same day, Canoe CN02-TSA, after receiving the injured crew member of the vessel SM HEDLAND and providing necessary medical care, began proceeding to Nha Trang.

At 00:40 on May 25, 2025, Canoe CN02-TSA docked at the Nhatrang MRCC’s port, where the patient was handed over to the authorities and the vessel’s agent, as per regulations./.
