The miraculous rescue of the last two fishermen swept away by waves in Ly Son after more than 40 hours adrift at sea

08/11/2026

As previously reported, on the morning of November 8, 2025, while sailing in waters about 50 nautical miles south of Ly Son Island, the vessel Hai Nam 39 discovered and rescued a man wearing a life jacket who had been drifting at sea. He was one of three people who had gone missing from a basket boat since the afternoon of November 6 in the Ly Son Special Administrative Area, Quang Ngai Province, due to the direct impact of Typhoon No. 13.

The Vietnam Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (Vietnam MRCC) mobilized available vessels in the area and closely coordinated with relevant forces and assets at the scene to urgently conduct search operations.

At 16:10 on November 8, 2025, in waters about 58 nautical miles south-southeast of the Ly Son Special Administrative Area, the vessel An Vinh Express discovered and rescued another person drifting at sea. After verification, the victim was identified as Mr. Le Van Sanh (born in 1988), one of the two fishermen who had been missing after drifting at sea for 44 hours. His health condition was stable.

By 17:30 the same day, the captain of the vessel An Vinh Express reported that Mr. Duong Quang Cuong (44 years old) - the first person who had jumped into the sea - was also rescued alive at a location about 55 km south of Ly Son Island.

Thus, all three people from the basket boat who went missing during Typhoon No. 13 (Kalmaegi) have now been successfully rescued.

Mr. Le Van Sanh was rescued after 44 Hours adrift at sea
